Twenty-five years ago, I started contract technical writing with a B.A. in hand and a dream of writing business documents that gave audiences real-world, relatable information in a creative and engaging way. Now, I feel like I live that dream every day - designing, writing, editing and maintaining everything from standard operating procedures to sustainability reports to corporate intranets. I'm always excited to take on a new project, collaborate with new people and learn something new!

No matter the company size or industry, a thorough analysis of a company's operation and the application of information architecture principles result in well-structured, audience-targeted internal and external deliverables that comply with company policies, industry standards and regulatory requirements, while still maintaining real-world relevance for the end-user.
Specialties
I have worked for all manner and size of companies, including service-based, information technology (IT), manufacturing, production, not-for-profit, small businesses and municipal government (utilities, waste and recycling and community services). My focus has been shifting more toward businesses that have an eye toward integrating sustainability and transparency into their policies, practices and reporting, so I've keenly dived into Harvard Business School courses that focus on sustainable business strategy to ensure that I have the knowledge to guide companies down this new communication path.

Founded in 1999, Shale Communications is a contract technical writing company located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I am not bound by geography, though... I work remotely, so can take on projects from anywhere!
